I’ve been listening to Yung lean and drain gang in general for a while now. And after talking about their discography with some of my friends lately i’ve discovered that some of them are missing out on real Yung lean hidden gems. So I thought I will share with all of you 7 songs that I think are not getting enough attention from most of Yung lean listeners and try to tell u what I like about them.
To start this list of I want to mention that one of the most underrated albums from Lean is “Poison Ivy” from 2018. I sure did need more listens on some of the songs from it but when you get used to his style in it, I believe you will love it.
7. Underrated song for me would be: “french hotel” from Poison ivy. Simply because it presents a nice way of using autotune and has a sick beat. The change of volume in beat and voice really creates an outstanding vibe for me.
“She off the pills up, and I ask "Do you wanna?"
She's in love with Lean, blood coming out her head”
6. Shine that is a bonus track on Warlord album is a song with crazy energy in the first hook and outro. This song always drags me in the vibe of it so much because I feel like when you are listening to the verse the whole time you know he is just getting ready for something to tell us. Also in the outro you really feel the mood he had when he was recording this song.
“My cuffs can't break in, I'm not even gonna say shit
I don't like conversations, I feel my face melt
No moon, only a space station
Lend me a light”
5. Princess Daisy from Unknown Memory 2002 is a really interesting one, because the beat gives to me a vibe from something like N.W.A. and that is not the kind of music Lean normally does. Also Princess Daisy is a character from Mario videogames, that shows us Lean’s love for Nintendo games.
“Licking off, dripping champagne from my fingernail
Tripping off ginger ale
This tune ain't got no hook
Like a monkey tail “
4. Ghosttown from Unkown memory is something else, and I mean it in the best way possible, because I love the vibe of older Travis and Lean together on this one. In the same year Travis showed us that he really knows how to work with autotune on his album “Days before rodeo” and all I can say is that I’m sad they didn’t do more of stuff together in this year.
“Leave my body in a bag
If you fuck around you in that body bag, burn the flag
Fuck who you know, I don't fuck with that
Couple zeros on a couple tags"
3. Highway Patrol from Warlord is a song to play in your headphones on high volume, because the beat in this one is something you really don’t want to miss out. “Can't leave can't be free, I got stacks, running up the highway on a mission
I don't pay attention to these children”, since highway patrol is a kind of police that watches over highways you know what is their opinion on someone telling them what is the speed limit in anything. Also we all know that when Yung Lean and Bladee do a song together it is fire.
“Pull up with no lights, blowing smoke, drinking ice
What's your blood type, what does it taste like?
Riding on my bike, rain this rain is coming down
All my boys can fly, we're like angels in the night”
2. How U Like Me Now? From Warlord is a song for the time when you need to boost your mood and want just to vibe to some energetic, ego boosting song. Yung Lean and Thaiboy are classic and great combo always.
“No one on my level, how you like me now?
Whip some work, count it like you’ve never heard
With my money, take you from the earth”
1. Volt from Unknown memory is a song that has for me vibe that is one of a kind. Long build up, spitting of some lyrics with energetic beat and a chilling outro. Really like songs with this kind of structure and I think that there is not enough of them, hopefully will see more in the future.
“Ball? No, basketball, New shoes, bank calls
Mix it with some alcohol, Adderalls, till I fall
Not supposed to make it so we chase it till we got 'em all
Made it, did it, out of zero"
